I grew up thinking hypnosis was evil mind control. As an adult, I became so curious I couldn't stand it, so I booked sessions with two different hypnotists.
Those fell flat.
I thought, "Either hypnosis is fake or it doesn't work on me."
But as I dove deeper into the neuroscience-backed research about hypnosis, I decided to go through the Mike Mandel Hypnosis Academy and learn how hypnosis can work for difficult, over-analytical people like me.
As a new hypnotist, I discovered it was much harder to get clients than I expected.
I was faced with 3 options:
One: Go get a "regular" job.
Two: Run out of money and become homeless.
Three: Start experimenting to see if this hypnosis thing actually worked.
Thank goodness I chose option three.
My income depended on finding enough people who weren't scared of hypnosis, charging them enough to live on, then replacing them the moment they experienced rapid transformation and didn't need me anymore.
So, years before Covid, when nobody had heard of Zoom, I decided to do a bold experiment.
I thought,
"What if hypnosis can work in a group setting?"
(Most people assumed it couldn't.)
I gathered 42 people to do an 8-week experiment. They all filled out a detailed questionnaire about the problem they wanted to solve.
Each person's problem was different.
Participants lived all around the world, so we met once a week over Zoom.
The results wrecked my expectations, in an amazing way. The before-and-after results were evident. But the surprising part was that these 42 strangers, scattered across the world, had bonded during our weekly sessions.
We all realized that the group wasn't a compromise.
The online Zoom setting generated the very thing we need to experience identity-level transformation...
A felt feeling of safety and belonging.
When our subconscious mind feels safe to let go of its old story, it can write a new, empowered one.
Participants experienced the shifts in the privacy of their own minds, surrounded by other humans doing the same thing.
This beautiful experiment showed us all that group hypnosis can give results that are just as powerful as 1:1 sessions. In fact, the shared experience compounds the change.
I've done over 500 group hypnosis sessions since this life-changing experiment nearly a decade ago.
I developed a technique called Somatic Intention Setting that lets each person in a group access the subconscious part of them that knows how to solve their problem.
HINT: Hypnotists don't solve people's problems. They help people discover the answer that's already inside them... even if they think they suck at hypnosis.
